We all have partners that support our artistic journey. It’s either a spouse, a friend, a parent, a child. This scholarship is funded by past Partners who not only were there to support our personal pursuits to achieve artistic happiness, but they also became willing participants by keeping us on track even when we had doubts about our talents. They helped to pay for our education, our stash, our studio, even if our studio took on the appearance of a fabric store, and, they never complained when we said we bought yet another sewing machine!
This scholarship is about three special men, Jerry Lasker, Aaron Finerman and Walter Bernard.
- Jerry Lasker was the spouse of Michele Lasker. He passed away in 2009 and was the love of Michele’s life. He supported her artistic journeys throughout the precious years they had together. Michele is a regular attendee of Art Quilt Tahoe and generously supports our educational program.
- Aaron Finerman was the spouse of Carol Finerman who has been attending Art Quilt Tahoe every year since inception. Aaron passed away in 1994 and was infinitely proud of Carol’s talent and dedication to her craft. Carol also generously supports our program.
- Walter was the spouse of Art Quilt Tahoe’s founder, Judy Fenzl (Bernard). He passed away in 2014 after having a stroke. He was an integral part of the development of Art Quilt Tahoe and was always there to help with the organization of the conference and to marvel at the depth of personalities and talent of our students.
Through their generosity, we are able to offer three scholarships each year to deserving individuals who want to attend Art Quilt Tahoe to further their quilting journey into the world of art quilting. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship to attend Art Quilt Tahoe, please submit a letter that describes your current artistic goals with respect to art quilting, why the scholarship would make a difference for your education journey, and why you are in need of a scholarship. Please include three photos of your current work and send the package to: Judy Fenzl, Art Quilt Tahoe, 25 South Kalaheo Avenue, Kailua, HI 96734. Your scholarship application and photos will not be returned.
All applications are due by October 15th to be considered for the following year’s scholarship. A committee reviews all applications and awards the scholarship on the last day of our current conference. If you are selected, you will be notified immediately upon your selection. Since the number of scholarships is limited, please apply again if you are not selected.
Good luck!
Michele Lasker, Carol Finerman and Judy Fenzl
