Take a Concept! Collage it! (Hawkins)

YOUR visual journals of art clippings, sketchbook, drawings & photographs, for clues to inspire your work. COME TO HAVE FUN!

YOUR current work as digital CD image, and/or one of your recent works.

Several of YOUR favorite artist postcards (any medium); plus a B & W copy to cut up and draw on.

Drawing Tools:

  • one plastic sleeve page; masking tape
  • newsprint paper to draw on, 4 sheets (any size)
  • a few colored pencils & sharpener, plain drawing pencils, eraser
  • Black Sharpie type markers (thick and thin), ALSO china marker pencil
  • one dry erase marker – 2 ft square lightweight clear vinyl sheet

Optional/minimal:

  • Color pastels, oil sticks, a FEW fabric paints (brush & water cup)

Working tools:

  • OPTIONAL Sew machine, if you envision time to do finish stitchery
  • Several layers COTTON batt, in pillow case for ironing surface
  • small iron, power strip, lamp if needed- 10″ PVC pipes (4) to elevate table
  • reducing glass, or HALF old binocular, or similar viewing tool
  • digital camera, if you have one
  • rotary mat and cutter (small for paper, larger for fabrics)
  • scissors, glasshead pins hand needles/thread-threads for machine

Fusing and Collage tools:

  • 20 yds Wonder Under OR (Steam a Seam 2) your choice
  • Teflon press sheet, but WU paper works just fine
  • Elmer’s glue SMALL bottle, brush and yogurt cup for spreading
  • Glue stick

Collage materials:

  • Scrap bag fabrics, BEST TOOLS for collage, lace, scarves, yarn
  • Fabrics you LOVE, whatever-1/2 yds-not trunkfuls-limited class time here
    many values: lights, mediums, darks, neutrals-hand created fabrics small fragments of quilt you would love to cut up
  • SHEER fabrics – netting, tulle, cheesecloth, polyesters, organzas
  • PAPER, all types, colorful, patterned (magazine pages important tool) wrap papers, tissue paper, paper bags, junk mail, music copies
  • BATTING, 1 yd squarish, QUILTER’S DREAM 100% cotton
  • 1 BLACK poster board, cut in half
  • just ordinary newspaper TEXT and ads, for interesting visual texture

Patty will have on hand:

  • Examples of DESIGN ELEMENTS – Studio artist SERIES work
  • small amount of fabric paints
  • few oil sticks, small amount pastel chalks
  • Minimal sheers….minimal Wonder Under
  • Minimal colored papers…magazine pages…index cards
  • Digital camera…minimal ART books for example & inspiration
  • I will bring batts/Hobbs Fusible Batt for all to experient
